Indian-inspired Dahi Toast with Herby Yogurt
Indian-inspired Dahi Toast with Herby Yogurt
This recipe is inspired by Indian Dahi toast, a spiced yogurt sandwich full of fresh herbs.
What is Dahi toast?
Dahi toast is a sandwich that is slathered with a yogurt filling and grilled. Believe it or not, it actually tastes like a spicy grilled cheese sandwich! The yogurt soaks into the bread and thickens, it isn't as gooey as a classic grilled cheese but it is just as creamy.
A lighter Dahi toast
This recipe still has all of the flavors but it is a lighter version. Fresh herbs like cilantro and green onion are chopped then mixed with fat-free yogurt. For a little more spice, you can add dried curry leaves and chili powder. Then the mixture is spread on crusty bread and that's it!
It is a great snack or a light dinner for those busy weeknights. It comes together in 10 minutes.
Indian-inspired Toast with Herby Yogurt
Ingredients:
2 slices of bread
1/2 cup fat-free Greek yogurt
1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
1/4 cup green onion, chopped
1/4 cup dried curry leaves
sprinkle of chili powder
sprinkle of cayenne pepper, optional
salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
Toast the bread. You can make it a darker toast so that it is extra crispy. The yogurt will soften it a bit.
In a bowl, add the cilantro, green onion, and curry leaves to the yogurt.
Sprinkle chili powder, salt, and pepper to taste over the mixture. Sprinkle cayenne powder, if using.
Top the toast with the yogurt mixture and enjoy!
